Media Training: A Necessity
What is Media Training?
Media Training is an effective and powerful tool. In two hours, we
create and compress your most important points, polish them into short,
memorable sound bites, and prepare you for up to five possible interview
scenarios. In the course of media training, we identify your
relationship to your public, heighten your ability to tell great, brief
anecdotes, and touch on damage control, market identity, consistent
messaging, answering the wrong questions, meeting the media's needs, and
appropriate humor.
Who needs Media Training?
Everyone. The success or failure of a media campaign can depend on how
well you present yourself to the media. Do you know the three most
important points that you want to make on a consistent basis? Can you
state them in a sound bite? That's all the time you may have. Will you
get your information across even if the interviewer asks you the "wrong"
questions? Are you comfortable speaking in anecdotes? Can you
distinguish between your public and your peer communication styles? Do
you have media presence or do you look like a "talking head"? What's
your current "market identity"? What would you like it to be? What if
they switch the story on you right before the interview? When you
answer a question, do you tell a great story, or do you disseminate
information? How effective are you at instant damage control? How
often do you use humor when you communicate? When you hear "Dr. Ruth",
what's the first word that comes to mind? What's the first word that
comes to mind when we hear your name? What would you like it to be?
These are all issues that are worked through in the Media Training sessions.
Controlling your message?
You communicate a powerful message just by the way you enter a room.
Your walk, gestures, clothing, posture, voice, speech habits, tone,
pitch, mannerisms, expression and eye contact are all telling a story.
Media Training teaches you how to tell a powerful and compelling story.
Taking Control
Many professionals sit back politely and wait to be asked the "right"
questions by the interviewer. This may never happen. It is not the
interviewer's job to gently guide you with questions that will explain
your business and put you in a flattering light. During the media
training sessions we work with you to polish your three most important
points until you can get them across in three sound bites (a pithy or
catchy phrase that succinctly illustrates your point). It's not a joke
to reduce your life's work to a series of sound bites, it's brilliant
media. Media Training will help express your message succinctly
dynamically and powerfully. You may only have 3-5 minutes in an
interview. Make the most of it.
