In my book, Spin to Win, I outline the steps one can take to start his or her own PR campaign, but it is a difficult, time-consuming process. As I mention in the book, if you can afford to hire a firm, do so. Your job is to run your company, not to launch a PR campaign. At book signings and at conferences I've found that there is a large number of business owners and professionals who are not yet able to afford to launch a full-scale campaign, but don't have the time or inclination to learn the ins and outs of launching their own campaign.
